2006 Ecology Award

ArcelorMittal Tubarão received homage for “Favourite TV advertisement” for having reached the highest acceptance level in the survey among the companies in the state (11.94%).

1. Category: Preservation of production input – The reduction of Environmental Impacts and Improvement of Energy Efficiency from LD Gas recovery.
2. Category: Protection of Water Resources – Implementation of new technology to reduce ArcelorMittal Tubarão’s consumption of fresh water from the local supplier.
3. Category: Air Quality – Technology and Innovation in the Management of Atmospheric Resources at ArcelorMittal Tubarão.
4. Category: Solid Residues – REVSOL – co-products for primary coating of unpaved pathways.

São Benedito Award

ArcelorMittal Tubarão was awarded the São Benedito Award in the sustainable company category for the investments in popular culture projects. The ward, already in its fourth edition, is dedicated to institutions and people that develop work in this area. In all, 13 categories were awarded. The award ceremony took place on October 18th in the State Lower House Auditorium.

Aberje Award

ArcelorMittal Tubarão received a double award in the 2006 edition of the Aberje Award Centre-west/East Region. Among the five works presented by the company two ended first place. The awarded works were chosen in the categories Special Events (Christmas Concert) and External Communication Video (Bone Marrow Donation institutional video).

ArcelorMittal Tubarão receives an award

Approximately 1,500 people participated in the event to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the “Universidade para Todos” (University Education for Everybody) Program, which made it possible for 1,734 youths from public schools to have access to university education.

Inda Social Action Award

ArcelorMittal Tubarão won the first edition of the award in the category Social Projects Development with the Communication with the Third Sector Program. The award is granted by the Steel Distributors National Institute (Inda).

2009 Época Climate Changes Award

An initiative developed by ArcelorMittal Tubarão to generate electrical energy using LG Gas as fuel resulted in an award to the ArcelorMittal Brasil group. The company received the 2009 Época Climate Changes Award in the category Best Strategy. The project was considered the best plan to reduce emissions according to a questionnaire prepared by a technical committee formed by representatives from the Industry National Confederation, the Sao Paulo University Advance Studies Institute, the World Bank Sustainable Development sector and the Getulio Vargas Foundation Sustainability Studies Centre. The 2009 Época Climate Changes Award is the result of a partnership between Época magazine and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. In total, 120 companies filled in the questionnaire and besides ArcelorMittal Tubarão another award went to CNEC Engineering winner in the category Best Inventory.

Environmental Brazil Award / 7th Environmental Benchmarking

In September, ArcelorMittal Tubarão received two important environmental sustainability awards for industrial residues management. The first was the Environmental Brazil Award for the project - “Sustainable Management of Residues and Co-products at ArcelorMittal Tubarão" the company was a leader in the category “Solid Residues Management” proving that it is among the best in the country in the development of environment preservation strategies. It was the second time the company received the award. The other award was to be among the “Best in Brazilian Social-environmental Management” in the 7th Environmental Benchmarking award with the project “Co-products and residues Management”; the company received the award for the fifth time and is now part of the Benchmarking Ranking – a free access bank of good sustainability practices including so far more than 150 companies used as source by specialized media and universities.

Brazil Environment Award - 3rd edition

The president of the ArcelorMittal Brasil Administrative Board, José Armando Campos, was chosen the “Best Businessman of the Year” in the 3rd edition of the Brazil Environment Award, in January. The award, granted by “Jornal do Brasil” (“JB Ecologico” Magazine) and “Gazeta Mercantil” is granted to the best national initiatives focused on environmental issues. It also recognizes the contribution to sustainability given by businessmen, companies and other governmental and third sector institutions. 12 organizations received the award this year.
