ISO 14001
In October 2001, ArcelorMittal Tubarão had obtained ISO 14001 Certification issued by the independent Certification Organization Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), established at UK. This certification covers the activities connected to the integrated process of steel slabs production through continuous casting, including electric energy co-generation, co-products process plants and product's internal transportation to Praia Mole port.
In June 2003, the Hot Strip Rolling Mill HSRM was included on the scope of Certification, in addition to the Certification of others Company's activities.
After the audit schemes had been accomplished in October by Loyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), the ArcelorMittal Tubarão Environmental Management System (EMS) was updated to ISO 14001: 2004 new version. The auditors highlighted the advanced level of environment behavior maturity, the employees' environment conscience and the involvement of the direction as determinant factors for environmental management efficiency, reflected by the indicators good results.
The Certification conquest is a result of the continuous activities developed by ArcelorMittal Tubarão, on EMS improvement. Since November 15th, 2004, when the ISO 14001 new version was published, the company undertook a revision process aiming the fulfillment of all cahngings so that EMS would become even more efficient, quick and non bureaucratic.
ISO 14001 Certification is the recognition of the culture and business philosophy from ArcelorMittal Tubarão, which incorporates the sustainability principles and places man and nature as highlights, with harmony between the steel and the quality of life.
