Guidelines

ArcelorMittal Tubarão considers each employee the main element to accomplish its goals and business mission. One of its basic guidelines is to value people, which ensures continuously higher productivity, maintaining a workplace environment that values competence and fosters personal development, and working to meet workers' expectations related to personal satisfaction, professional growth, worker safety, and preservation of health in workplace.

Employees' satisfaction, professional and personal development, safety - not only inside the company but extended to daily life and family - are an integral and indispensable part of ArcelorMittal Tubarão's strategic targets. In 2004, the Brazilian Association of Human Resources awarded the prize "Prêmio Human Being Oswaldo Cechia", the most important of this area in the country, to ArcelorMittal Tubarão for the excellence in the work "HR Supporting the Organizational Structure", through the use of Balanced Scorecard, in Managing People - Corporate Category. ArcelorMittal Tubarão was the first steel making plant to be awarded such prize. HR policy in the company is built on:

  1. To be an employer of choice:
    • To develop technical and managerial qualification programs for personnel supply;
    • To adopt a permanent and pro-active process of attracting and selecting qualified professionals;
    • To supply personnel for expansion projects;
    • To ensure the corporate management of knowledge sharing and team integration and exchange, continuously encouraging the adoption of best practices in line with the need of making the business more competitive;
    • To create the infrastructure and certify all employees ensuring professional competence.

  2. To consolidate the Management Model:
    • To search for the integration of the policies with Arcelor Brasil from the values of the Arcelor Group;
    • To better the communication system aiming to unfold the management system and to mitigate the cultural, structural and social impacts stemming from the integrations;
    • To search for the alternative of creating shared service centers so as to optimize value creation;
    • To have an exchange of best management practices with the companies in the Arcelor Group so as to pursue the continuous improvement of processes and professionals;
    • To consolidate the management by guidelines model and the routine management, as well as broaden the competences in problem analysis and solutions through the implementation of programs such as the Six Sigma;
    • To strengthen the employees' proactive attitude regarding the reporting and treatment of anomalies integrating the anomalies system;
    • To enhance the morale and motivation through the management of the organizational climate, ensuring an ever-growing productivity in a work environment which favors the quality of life, the competence, the challenges and the encouragement to self-development meeting the employees, expectations regarding satisfaction, professional growth, safety and health preservation, but never losing sight of being a sustainable and competitive company.
