Tar is a liquid black product, more or less viscous and having a variable, very complex composition. It is resulted from the coal coking process, where the volatile parts of the coal are separated during the heating stage then forming gases. Those gases carry a certain quantity of tar, either dragged or in vapor shape, which is then decanted and forms the Coal Tar.
The tar produced in Coke Ovens is a mixture of an extremely complex organic compound, in which there are mainly aromatic hydrocarbons, ranging from substances with light oils and pitches. Tar is sold to downstream companies that perform its fractioning. In addition to that, we produce Coal Tar Sludge, which is a mixture of coal and tar particles that is recycled back into the process.
