CDQ dust

Co-Products Catalog:
Introduction | Raw Coal Tar | CDQ dust | Recarburizing Dust

Transport of the CDQ dust

During the process of coke production, there is a great generation of dust, mainly when it is withdrawn from the coking chamber and during the dry quenching at the tower CDQ (Coke Dry Quenching). All of this dust is collected by the dedusting systems, then cooled and put into silos. This dust is stored inside those silos and then commercialized by ArcelorMittal Tubarão because of its several applications.

Chemical Composition

Moisture Content < 2.0%
Fixed Carbon > 85% (normally between 86 and 89%)
Volatile Matter < 1.5%
Ash < 14%
Sulfur < 2.0%

Granulometry

0 to 0.5 mm

Applications

  • It is injected into EAF type furnaces for making foaming slag during the steelmaking process.

  • Production of electrolytic Soderberg paste, reaching up to 35% of its composition. The utilization of CDQ dust reduces the costs of production of those products by reducing the use of ball mills, which directly contributes to lesser emissions of particles.

This paste is utilized for forming electrodes in reduction electric furnaces for the production of ferro-alloys.
