Highway Mode

ArcelorMittal Tubarão offers highway transport to all parts of Brazil. ArcelorMittal Tubarão offers highway transport to all parts of Brazil.

For clients with large volumes, ArcelorMittal Tubarão can create alternatives using other modes, or an intermodal solution.

For execution of transport, ArcelorMittal Tubarão hold contracts with six large trucking companies that have vast experience and tradition in the steel cargo market.

Railroad Mode

ArcelorMittal Tubarão uses the railroad transport mode to deliver hot rolled coils to clients. The mode is mainly used for delivery to clients that have railroad access located in their installations, but it is also used for clients with orders for delivery in large service centers.
ArcelorMittal Tubarão holds a contract with Cia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) for rail transport services. CVRD executes transport using their own and other railroads, including the FCA, MRS and Ferroban networks.

There is also a mode of door-to-door service whereby transshipment between rail and highway modes is executed in distribution centers, with final delivery to the client done by truck.

Maritime mode via coastal shipping

Coastal shipping is maritime transport with both origin and destination located in the same country. ArcelorMittal Tubarão uses coastal shipping for Brazil's South, delivering coils to the Port of Paranaguá, located in Paraná state, using small- and medium-sized vessels.

Loading operations use the facilities at the Steel Products Terminal of the Port of Praia Mole.

A project is being developed for coastal shipping using ocean-going convoys of barges, an innovative mode of transport in Brazil.

Ocean Barge Terminal (Logistics)

Ocean-Going Barge Terminal
ArcelorMittal Tubarão relies on the Ocean Barge Terminal (OBT), whose operation started in October, 2006, and aims to serve the sea transportation of steel coils produced in the Hot Strip Mill (HSM). This resolution is part of the supply chain in the Brazilian market, through cabotage system, connecting the ports of Espirito Santo and São Francisco do Sul.

The terminal has a fleet of four barges and two pushers, i.e., one barge in each one of two terminals. When docked, the barge assumes a floating warehouse function, with the pushers constantly sailing between the terminals of Santa Catarina and ArcelorMittal Tubarão, optimizing the whole process. The barges and pushers' operation is under the responsibility of Companhia de Navegação Norsul, which has projected and constructed the system.

With this new cabotage transportation system, an average of 100 to 110 heavy load trucks will stop routing each day. Each barge has capacity to transport 10 thousand tons of cargo. ArcelorMittal Tubarão and São Francisco do Sul are 630 nautical miles apart, and the barge trip takes two to three days while by truck it takes three to four days. About 1.1 million tons of steel coils will be shipped to Santa Catarina (SC) a year.

ArcelorMittal Tubarão has a License for Ocean Barge Terminal Installation, obtained on October 29, 2004. Such license approves the project and allows its execution, which expresses the company's sustainable commitment to the environment, for it follows the conditions established by the Environment and Water Resources State Institute (IEMA).

This initiative allows ArcelorMittal Tubarão to guarantee the transport of hot rolled coils to ArcelorMittal Vega, in Santa Catarina, in a safer and more ecological way.
