Arcelor Mittal Tubarão has a team focused on Product Development with a mission to increase customer's competiveness, creating and supplying innovative products. Based on our knowledge of the production processes, from the BOF till the final use, we research, design and develop new ways to add value to slabs and coils offering the market quality options with differentiated characteristics to several uses.
Our actions in the area of Product Development includes the manufacture of new products or the optimization of products already manufactured, through the coordination and the improvement of experimental procedures, the creation and review of technical and operational standards and the evaluation of the analysis of products requested by the customers. At the same time, the area is responsible for the technical analysis of customers' complaints; technical support in the definition of rules for product use and technical support to the developments of Vega.
Pioneer
Over the years, this work has made it possible for ArcelorMittal Tubarão to maintain a pioneering position, by the launching of last generation products, such as:
Dual Phase Steels for the auto industry - it is a steel that combines superb mechanical resistance to good shaping capability and low weight. They are mainly used in the structure of cars, in internal parts and strengthening. They may be used to manufacture parts in several shapes; they are safe and reduce the weight of the vehicles, helping to reduce fuel consumption and pollutants emissions.
API X80 Steel - specific for the manufacture of great diameter gas and oils piping, which must resist to high pressures to allow higher flows of the material. This kind of steel has high mechanical strength and higher thickness, but thanks to its different microstructure they allow for a welding process adequate to its application, with safety and productivity.
Ferrite Bainite Steels - specifically developed for the use in the automotive industry aiming to reduce the weight and, as a result, fuel consumption. FB steels may be used in reduced thicknesses still maintaining its mechanical strength, which guarantees car safety. Its structure is formed by the Ferrite and Bainite components. The first guarantees its softness and the second, the mechanical strength. Pioneer in the development of this steel in Brasil, ArcelorMittal Tubarão is currently, the main supplier of this product to the national automotive industry.
