"Interagir" (Interact) Program

The Environmental Education Interact Program was created 10 years ago, gathering results much higher than those defined at first. More than making people aware and qualified for an attitude aligned with ArcelorMittal Tubarão environmental responsibility, the "Interagir" (Interact) Program has been transformed into the basis for the company's sustainability strategy and a tool to multiply its values to other publics, such as outsourced, suppliers, customers and the community.

Since its implementation, "Interagir" (Interact) has trained more than 20,000 people in the different modules, totalling around 120 thousand man/hour of training in environmental education. Besides that, around 9.5 thousand people from partner companies have attended training modules specifically designed for this public. Other important results from the program are:

  • the development, by employees, of more than a hundred projects for environmental improvement already implemented in the company;
  • the construction of the Environmental Education Centre, structure to house all the actions regarding the company's environmental education for internal and external publics;
  • the creation of the Environmental Communication Program for the academic community - (Schools and Universities), initiatives that cooperate in the multiplication of environmental values for society.

In 2006 the Interact Program incorporated new awareness and qualification tools: a specific module was created to integrate the Operators Qualification Program and the suppliers' employees within ArcelorMittal Tubarão premises. In the year, more than 2,600 people were trained in the several modules of the Interact Program including interns, own employees and suppliers.
